“God Knows My Heart” is a phrase that many Christians like to use as a justification to continue to sin ON PURPOSE. I’m not here to condemn people because I used to use this phrase also…until I decided to REALLY try to live for Christ. So I stuck my nose in my Bible and got to reading for myself. The verse that is forever stuck in my head comes from Matthew 7:21-23. It says
21“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.”
Reading that verse literally scared the crap out of me. It made me realize that I wasn’t truly saved just because I got up in front of my church when I was 9 and got baptized. It made me realize that me claiming to be a Christian didn’t mean anything if I wasn’t living like one.
We keep doing things WE KNOW God doesn’t approve of, things WE KNOW disappoint Him. And for What? Our own selfish desires, that’s what. So when you say “God knows my heart…you’re totally right! He most definitely does. He knows your heart is selfish and would rather please your own flesh rather than your Heavenly Father. We have to stop taking words from the Bible and twisting them for our own selfish gain. Yes we’re Christians and yes we’re saved by grace but Jesus didn’t die on the cross for us so that we could just continue to sin on purpose without consequences. He wants more for us. Matthew 16:24 says 24 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.” Anyone can wear the Christian jersey, but who’s really willing to get in the game?
It all comes down to who you love more, yourself or Christ. If you love and serve Him like you say you do then you WOULDN’T want to disappoint Him. You would WANT to please Him in everything you do. By you saying that “God knows my heart” means you know that what you’re doing is wrong! Now it’s up to you to make the decision. Are you going to live your life to please your own selfish flesh (which will fade away and return to dust) or are you going to please your almighty Father who made you and loves you and even sent His son to DIE for you? Luke 6:44 says that a tree is identified by its fruit…So what does the lifestyle you’re living say about you? Is it really worth it?
